What has happened to Valentines Day 2009. Has it become a victim of the credit crunch, or has the PR industry just hibernated for winter?
This issue came up yesterday, when talking to one of my clients, janan Leo, of CocoRose London. It has been an absolute pleasure to handle PR for this exquisite range of shoes, since their launch in May 2009, and handing fashion PR has been, to coin a phrase, absolutely fabulous.
CocoRose London have some absolutely divine Valentine shoes available this year - ideal for any girl who is bored with chocs and roses. However, these lovely silver and red delights have helped draw attention to the fact that Valentines Day 2009 is either going to hit us like a bomb on the 13th of February, or be cancelled due to lack of interest.
Just where have all the red hearts, flower displays, aisles of chocs, cards and trinkets that we all start moaning about seeing as soon as the Christmas baubles have been packed away gone? Is love a victim of the recession, or are public relations professionals just not bothering to promote hotels, restaurants, retailers and other sectors who traditionally earn such a valuable income from playing Cupid?
Are we really too strapped for cash to buy a little something to communicate our love and affection, or are males everywhere just using the credit crunch as an excuse not to bother? It is an interesting point. Maybe Valentines Day needs a PR person. If it gives me perks like the CocoRose London shoes, I will be first in the queue to handle this PR account!
